Sister Bands, Mainliner and Our Yearly Festival

· Our Story

Acid Mothers Temple has never been just one band. Here's a short tour of the other names we play under, the festival we've held for years, and the designs in this store that nod to them.

What are the sister bands?

We're a soul collective, and over the years it has spun off several units. Acid Mothers Temple & the Cosmic Inferno was formed in 2005 to mark the tenth anniversary of the band. There's also Acid Mothers Temple SWR and Acid Mothers Temple & Space Paranoid. Kawabata Makoto has said all of them are true forms of Acid Mothers Temple.

What is Mainliner?

Mainliner is a trio of Kawabata Makoto on guitar, Asahito Nanjo on bass and vocals, and Hajime Koizumi on drums. Their debut album, Mellow Out, came out in 1996. Our text-only Mainliner Mellow Out design carries the album's name in plain white gothic lettering.

What is the Acid Mothers Festival?

We've held our own yearly festival in Japan, the Acid Mothers Festival, since 2002. Our Festival Cats design is a nod to it: two cats raising their beer mugs under a row of five masks, with the year 2024 and the festival's name in katakana, ending in the character 祭, which means festival.

Where do the names show up in the store?

Full name. Many designs carry Acid Mothers Temple & the Melting Paraiso U.F.O. in hand-drawn letters, the name of our first album from 1997.

Katakana. The Katakana Face design spells the band's name as アシッドマザーズテンプル beside a half-serene face.

Every product page says what's on the design.
