The Records and Art Behind Our Designs
We've released so much music that no shop could cover it all. Our designs pick out a few moments from our long trip. Here's the story behind them.
Where does the full name come from?
Many of our designs carry our full name, Acid Mothers Temple & the Melting Paraiso U.F.O., the same name as our first album, released by P.S.F. Records in 1997. You'll find it lettered by hand around a teapot cat, a temple calendar and a medallion of twin idols.
What are the Levitation Sessions?
Levitation Sessions is a concert film of us, filmed at Dance Hall Benihana in Hikone, Japan. It premiered on March 6th, 2021, and The Reverberation Appreciation Society released it as a live album on March 19th, 2021. Our magenta mandala design carries the session's name and that premiere date.
Why does one design say Mainliner?
Mainliner is a noise-rock trio with Kawabata Makoto on guitar, Asahito Nanjo on bass and vocals, and Hajime Koizumi on drums. Their first album, Mellow Out, came out in 1996. Our text-only design is for everyone who follows Kawabata's guitar into every side project.
And the Japanese lettering?
Two designs spell the band's name in katakana: アシッドマザーズテンプル. On one, it ends with 祭, the character for festival, next to two cats raising their beer mugs and the year 2024. We've held a yearly Acid Mothers festival in Japan since 2002.
